HAVEN HUMANE KICKS OFF "WHOLE EARTH" FESTIVAL
TURNING ON NEWLY INSTALLED SOLAR PANELS APRIL 21
April 21 will be a bright new day at Haven Humane Society as CEO Dr. Ray John turns on the switch at 10:30 a.m. putting to work energy generating solar panels recently installed by Halcyon Solar Construction. Haven's activity will start the celebration of the Whole Earth and Watershed Festival which will be held on Saturday April 23 at Redding City Hall.
"We at Haven Humane are doing our part in conserving electric power by utilizing the sun's natural energy, an ongoing renewable resource," said Dr. John, adding that REU (Redding Electric Utility) will be on hand when Haven's solar panels are turned on. A REU representative will be available to answer questions.
Halcyon Public Relations spokesperson Janine Herman explained that giving back to the community is a top priority for Halcyon Solar and it is our goal to donate a system each year. Last year we installed an 11.1 kw system at the Good News Rescue Mission and this year we were able to install one here at Haven Humane.
Dr. John said the savings from Haven's 5.5 KW solar system will amount to approximately $1,000 in a year and $32,000 over 25 years.
"With these savings, it will allow us to remarkably increase our volume of spays and neuters at our clinic," said Dr. John. "Where there is a way we can save energy it simply helps us do our job better."
Janine Herman also said that during REU's 2010 Energy Fair at Turtle Bay, Haven Humane received a coupon from REU for a $4 per watt rebate. Halcyon solar construction donated the system including design and installation, utilizing the REU rebate to offset some of the cost. She also said Halcyon would like to express their thanks to Semingson Architects for their assistance in the design phase of this project.
Halcyon is a major sponsor of the Whole Earth and Watershed Festival which goes from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Haven Humane will also be participating in the Whole Earth and Watershed Festival with its mobile unit full of adoptable pets and will offer City of Redding dog licenses, rabies vaccinations and microchips in front of City Hall.
"It will be a one stop shopping and the perfect time to take advantage of vaccination discounts," Dr. John said.
According to REU's Matt Madison, the city's electric utility department will also be on hand with energy savings information.
The Whole Earth and Watershed Festival is upstate California's premier environmental event featuring over 100 exhibitors, live music, great food, and activities for all ages. This year there will be two ways to get to the event without driving. Halcyon Solar is sponsoring a FREE RIDE day on RABA. Routes 3, 5 and 11 go to the Festival Also, the "Open Street" event organized by Shasta Living Streets provides a safe, non-motorized, entertainment filled corridor from the Sundial Bridge Area along Park Marina Drive to the Festival. "Open Street" events are occurring all over the country and this is the first one north of San Francisco.

THE SUN SHINES BRIGHTLY
FOR GOOD NEWS RESCUE MISSION
The Good News Rescue Mission partnered with Halcyon Solar Construction along with Redding Electric Utility, and installed a 9.4 kilowatt photovoltaic solar system at the Mission, located at 3100 S. Market Street in Redding. On April 14, 2010, at 11:00 am., a the GNRM along with REU & Halcyon Solar will celebrate the operation of the new solar power generation system.
The new solar system will generate enough electricity to save the Good News Rescue Mission more than $2000 per year in energy costs allowing them to feed approximately 700 people per year with this savings. With Halcyon donating the labor and equipment, along with REU's incentives, the project is a home run for the Good News Rescue Mission as they look to save money on operating cost.
In terms of environmental impact, the project will eliminate as much as 600,000 pounds of carbon dioxide, which is the leading cause of greenhouse gas, or the equivalent of taking three cars off the road for the next 25 years, or planting five acres of trees.
Halcyon Solar would also like to thank the following businesses for their contributions to this project. Many thanks to North Valley Distributing, Industrial Fasteners, Cresco Equipment Rental of Redding, Redding Electric Utility, Eco Fasten Solar, AEE Solar and ECO Solargy. Without their generosity this project would not have been such a success.

Other Great Reviews
Dan and Halcyon were referred to us by a mutual friend. When I called Dan, he was able to explain the sale process to me clearly over the phone and asked me for my electrical utility usage. I am located about 175 miles away from Halcyon's office, so we were able to communicate by e-mail and phone.
After Dan designed a system specific to our needs, he came to our home and presented it in a way that was very clear. The tax credit was important to my wife and I and since it was getting close to the end of the year Halcyon had a dead line to meet. They even worked the weekend to do so!
Our electrical bill for 2010 was $168 for the entire year!
Halcyon does business the way I did, honest and straight forward.

Halcyon Solar has been a shining star to work with. Dan and Andrew have the experience, knowledge and excellent crew to take the project on a straight path from beginning to end.
